Mohandas Gandhi was a strong believer of Hinduism. He believed in many ideas including the idea of Ahimsa, also known as non-violence. Towards the beginning of the movie, Gandhi is beaten by the police officers for protesting against the new Pass Law. However, he did not fight back but expressed his beliefs through actions-- He burned the Indian passes to show resistance to the English rule. He also believed in the idea of self-sacrifice. He thought by sacrificing oneself, they were able to win over an opponent. Gandhi demonstrated by fasting when the Muslims and Hindus fought when India separated into New India and Pakistan. He also gave up the clothes he used to wear to be equal with the poors.
Gandhi said many famous quotes but the one that seemed relevant to his beliefs was, "An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind." What Mohandas Gandhi was trying to say was that if we hold grudges and try to take a revenge every time someone harms you, you will end up being bad, if not worse, as the person that you tried to punish. Gandhi applied this quote to his daily life. He never used violence or even fought back to the cruel British treatment towards the Indians.
