After the idea of mosque near ground zero was proposed in the United States, there was a protest on August 23, 2010. Opponents outnumbered the supporters, who chanted, "We say no to racist fears. Mosques are welcome here." The opponents argue that the mosques are being built by "the same people who took down the twin towers." They want the mosque to be moved away from the site where so many were killed on September 11, 2010. Although some argue that the opposition of the mosque is an infringement on religious freedom, many opponents believe that the ground zero is a sacred place where their family members were buried. They claim that if the mosque is built by the ones that killed their family near the ground zero, it would be "like a knife in our hearts."

These Muslims, living in the United States, are willing to compromise and follow the Constitution of the United States. Many American Muslims want to settle the issues between the Americans and Muslims rather than making the ground zero mosque project succeed. However, they feel like if they give in now, it would be seen as 'One down, two thousand to go,' so they do not want to risk that either.
